Photographer's note: West Thumb Geyser Basin sits on the edge of Yellowstone Lake and is filled with steam producing hot springs and bubbling mud pots. After photographing here earlier in the day I felt it would be a great location to capture the full moon rising later in the evening. Although I’ve photographed many moon rises this was perhaps the most dramatic as an orange-yellow moon emerged slowly from behind a distant mountain and rose into the haze of steam from the hot springs, while at the same time casting reflections on Yellowstone lake and silhouettes of nearby trees.
